PITCHER'S LAW

Pitcher’s Law @PW

Always throw the ball with a purpose! Not just bull pen work! Always means always! If you are playing catch you should be working on something: throwing to a spot, sinker action (hand inside the baseball), movement with change-up (hand inside the baseball), or something else. These things can be done during light toss or playing catch.

0-2 Pitches: Pitch has to look hittable! I am NOT saying we have to throw a strike, but a pitch two feet off the plate or a foot over the hitters head does us no good!

This is not a waste pitch!!! You have put yourself in an excellent situation- use it to set up y our next pitch or out pitch!!! Pitch and location of 0-2 pitch should depend on what your next pitch is going to be…move the hitters eyes away from area of your next pitch.
Discuss

Put up zero’s early! Self explanatory! No multi-run innings!!

Step-off: When you hear these words do not panic, you have a lot of time! Just step off and check your lead runner then others.

Also, step off and communicate with other players if you do not know what is going on with any type of situation. Do the same if the runner at second if getting a big deal or if you are not comfortable with something.

Leads at second base. Stop the runner before going to the plate- do not allow walking of huge lead. Use the inside move if you have to and remember that you do not need to throw the ball.

Relax! Have confidence in your abilities! You will have the ball because I have confidence in you. This is your OPPORTUNITY to EARN a bigger role or a smaller role.

Body language on the mound and in meetings: Body language on the mound leads to mound presence. If you give up a monster HR of anything else your body language should be the same as when you strike someone out.
Body language in the meetings is also very important- if your body language says you do not care then you probably do not care! This upsets your pitching coach! L I will excuse you from the meeting.

Pay attention during PFP’s and in all other situations! During PFP’s, bunt situations, first and third situations, etc…, if it is not your turn to take a physical rep, it IS YOUR TURN TO TAKE A MENTAL REP!!! use these opportunities to become better! Ask questions if you do not understand something!!! Ask questions before going to the mound!!!

Roles: Roles will be defined and redefined throughout the year. You do not have to accept the role you are given, but you will have to deal with the role you are given! Do not feel sorry for yourself- prove to the coaching staff that you deserve a larger role! Then go out and earn it! All roles are extremely important! If you are asked to get one hitter out it will be in a crucial situation and is a very important role! Shut up and do your job! J

Down time: Use down time to work on foot work for picks, visualization, etc…

Bring some kind of notebook to all meetings and games! Bring notebooks to meetings to write down important aspects of our discussions. Bring notebooks to games and write down things you observe- how to set up certain hitters, who runs and who does not run, who is a drag bunter, who you can get in on, who you need to stay away from, etc… You will be asked to contribute your thoughts in meetings!

CROSS-OVER SYMMETRY: You should have one or the other. If you use weight it should be very light weight- two pounds. Do Jobe exercises on a regular basis. Daily 3-4 times per week.

Do Not Separate your shoulder diving for a ball during BP! Use your heads!

We need to get better everyday!!! If we are all on the same page and work hard at it together, this process will lead to our success and it will be fun!!!

Mentally and physically prepare yourself to dominate!!!

SPRING TRIP

Parents & Players

The Pueblo West baseball Team will be playing three games during our spring break in Anthem Arizona. Fundraising is essential to make this a success. We have some money left over from last years fundraising. As a result, the money needed for our trip is not as MUCH if we wouldn't have saved and fundraised last year.. We are in the process of selling Christmas trees..I am asking every player that is not playing winter sports to sell 3 trees...that is not to0 much to ask..
In the next few months we will be doing super bowl boards.. remember parents and players this for the kids not myself... so If we want to go and do nice things we need to help with the fundraising...Those parents that helped with both board these past two years thank you...

Here is a thought and question for the parents.. If our fundraising covers all the Hotel bills and the majority of the food for our trip, would you consider flying to Arizona and the parents picking up the tab..? We have looked into some prices...240$ round trip...From Denver to Phoenix. I think that is pretty affordable. I think that would be a liftime experience for these young men. However if it doesn't fit in with your finaces then I understand...The one big problem I have is that the Airlines need us to reserve tickets within the next month. We as coaches don't know who all will make varsity...we know who can play its just the young kids who we really havn't seen yet...so this is a problem I am trying explore so it doesn't deter us from flying if possible..

Please keep all of this in mind...

REMEMBER: THIS IS FOR THE KIDS..
